Why a Farm?
Farms Provide the Opportunities to...
-
Create Community: Our way of living fosters a sense of community, which helps create a more integrated life. Our farmstead -- which is composed of people working and living together -- creates a place of acceptance in an often unaccepting world.
-
Build Understanding: Our participants practice the rural arts on our farm. They care for, and own, animals. They grow their own food, clean it, help cook it, and share it with others -- thus understanding the connection between the land, work and need.
-
Provide Structure & Predictability: Farm life is seasonal and predictable -- something extremely important for individuals who need structure and routine. Farm work also gives people a variety of tasks -- which helps prevent boredom and promote cognitive and physical function.
